EFFECTS OF SPOT AND PLAGE ROTATION IN THE TRIGGERING OF  FLARES AND PROMINENCE EVOLUTION

K. Sundara Raman

Abstract

The role played by the rotations of sunspots and plages in inducing magnetic shear for the triggering of flares and prominence evolution is reported in this paper.  These studies were carried out by using photoheliogram and spectroheliogram data.  In the absence of vector magnetogram, an alternate method has been attempted to evaluate shear by carefully analysing photospheric and choromospheric environment of the solar active regions.  It has been found that a large value of shear change observed in the active regions is responsible for the triggering of flares and prominence evolution.
