What are the Characteristics of Substorm Recovery Phase?

Splinter Group - Chairs: Martin Walt and Harlan Spence

This session will focus on the characteristics of the recovery phase of magnetic substorms. Contributions are invited in both theory and experiments dealing with the decay of injected particles, the evolution of aurora in visible, ultra-violet and x-ray wavelengths, the structure of the geomagnetic field and electric fields, and wave activity at all frequency ranges. The overall magnetospheric response as well as small scale physics will be discussed. Examples of substorms to be considered are those during the first 8 hours of 10 January, 1997 and the isolated substorm of 20 December, 1997.

Participants wishing to make contributions are requested to contact Martin Walt or Harlan Spence.
